SHETLAND HOSTS HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL AQUACULTURE CONFERENCE

Over 70 people from the aquaculture industry, its controlling bodies and the wider community took part in the Shetland Aquaculture Conference at the Clickimin Centre in Lerwick, this weekend (18 January). It is the only event of its kind to be held in Scotland during the consultation period and it has raised a lot of important issues.

Shetland salmon played an integral part in the Master Chefs of Great Britain (MCGB) 20th Annual Luncheon on Monday (11th November) as Nigel Frost, executive chef of the Hilton London Metropole Hotel, accepted the task to cook for 350 discerning guests.

Shetland Salmon Farmers’ Association has announced its direct employment and industry related employment statistics for 2001. Figures show an overall increase of 10 per cent on the previous year from 1,046 to 1,147.

SHETLAND SALMON FARMERS UNITE IN MAJOR AREA MANAGEMENT AGREEMENT

Nine salmon farming companies in one of the most complex aquaculture areas in Shetland came together yesterday (Thursday 22 August) to sign a voluntary Area Management Agreement (AMA). The document formalises a strategy to work closer together in all aspects of the fish farming process to protect the environment and improve the health and welfare of the fish.
